SMS Public Lecture 2011

A particular highlight of the annual meeting of the Swiss Mathematical Society is the Public Lecture. The society invites a renowned speaker to give a talk for a broader public. In 2011, the public lecture is scheduled as follows:

  • Date and time: Friday, October 28, 17:30
  • Place: ETH Zürich, HG F1
  • Speaker: Tadashi Tokieda (Trinity Hall, University of Cambridge)
  • Title: Science from a sheet of paper
  • Abstract: Take a sheet of paper.  We will tear it, toss it, fold it, crumple it, and explore many unusual, and mostly new, corners of science, from geometry to biomechanics to elasticity to probabilistic topology.

Everybody is cordially invited. No registration is needed, entrance free.
