Upper and lower bounds for heights
Heights play an important role in number theory. They are used in many finiteness results, but also have subtle properties as functions. In this talk we concentrate on the latter. We begin by giving a simple definition of the height function. Then some classical result on lower bounds for heights attributed to Dobrowolski, Zagier, and Zhang are presented. Finally we mention upper bounds which showed up more recently in the work of Cohen and Zannier.
